I specialise in building websites for orienteering clubs. I've been doing it since 2001 and have built more than 35 sites for clubs, organisations and events.
The events have included the Scottish 6 Days, Lakes 5 Days, WOC2015 and JK2016.
I do occasionally venture outside of orienteering, recently I took on Àban, which is a Scottish charity and a thriving social enterprise.
A major consideration is how to present information on smaller screens, like phones and tablets. You really need to focus on what is important and what is decorative. My designs are quite basic and often look similar to each other. Over the years I've learnt what works, and it seems silly to change stuff just to be different. People expect to find common things on websites and often they are in similar places, so why try and confuse them by being different for the sake of it.
A few years ago someone told me that they love visiting my sites; "It's so easy to find stuff as it's in the same place whichever club I visit". That consitency is great for the user experience.
